#Obedience,#Son,#Doing What the Lord Says

In the book of Matthew chapter 21 verses 28-32 the Lord taught from a parable of two sons and their father.  The father called the first son and told him to go work in the vineyard.  The son told his father, no.  But, after awhile, the son repented and went to work.

The second son came.  The father asked him to go work in the vineyard also.  The second son said he would go, but did not go.  Jesus then asked the question, "Whether of them twain did the will of his father?"  The correct answer, the first son.

Why does the scripture teach that the first son obeyed?  His first answer was no.  Did he say no because he did not want to go?  Did he say no because he was being rebellious?  The scripture does not say why he said no.  But he did.  However, he must have thought about what he said.  For he went back, repented and went to work.

Isn't it wonderful that the Lord gives time to 'get it right' through repentance?  Isn't it wonderful that a person does not have to stay in a disobedient state?  Isn't it wonderful that a person can change his or her mind and do what the Lord asks them to do?

Thank God for repentance.

The second son, he lied.  he stated he would go and work.  He did not tell his father the truth.  His answer made it seem he would go work.  But he did not go.  How many today, pretend to want to do the will of the the Lord, and then do nothing?

Do you need to repent?  Eternity is a long time.
