Conviction is one thing. Repentance is another. When they both work together, salvation comes forth. In the book of John chapter 8, the woman caught in adultery was brought to Jesus. They brought her to Jesus to test the teachings of Jesus. Especially, since He said He came to fulfill the law. They reminded Jesus that Moses in the law taught that one caught in adultery should be stoned to death. They wanted to know what Jesus thought about it. Jesus ignored them for awhile. But in verse 7 Jesus asked a question. He asked, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her". The Bible says, and they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left along, and the woman standing in the midst".
