The Bible teaches that parents are to "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
What way should a child go? For Godly parents, the training will be centered around teaching the child the ways of the Lord and the Word of God. The error that is made, is when the parent mixes up Godly ways with wordly ways. The Child is to be taught the ways of the Lord beginning in the home. God told Moses in Deuteronomy 6:4-7 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest, in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
All that The Lord taught Moses, was to be taught to the children. The children were to be taught when the family talked, when the family was sitting in their home and even before going to bed at night. Every day was to be a day of teaching the ways and word of the Lord to the Children. Deuteronomy 6:20,21 says, "And when they son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded you? Then thous shalt say unto they son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand." When children ask about the Lord, the Bible, the parents testimony of their walk with the Lord, do the parents answer?
Today, in 2014 is this being done? Are parents that profess Christ teaching their children the ways of the Lord? Are the children being taught to pray? Are the children being taught to seek the Lord? Are the children being taught to give and tithe? Are the children being taught to reverence the Lord and His house? Are the children being taught how to conduct themselves in the presence of the Lord? Are children being taught about sin and repentance? Are children being taught how to be saved? Or is too much time being spent playing video games, being entertained and 'hangin' out? How can the children be saved if mixed messages are sent? Do the Children see the parents in prayer? Do the children see the parents studying the Word of God at home? Do parents study the Word of God with their children?
The Lord says what He means and means what He says. Godly, saved parents are required by the Lord to teach and train their children in the ways of the Lord. If the children are trained like the Bible teaches, when they get old they will not depart of it. And, God did not say how old, old is. It could be 15 or it could be 115. But the promise of salvation is there for those that will train up their children in the way they should go.
